Animal Crossing Gets Free Festivale Update This Week

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will receive a free update on Thursday, January 28th. The update adds a new event called Festivale to the game in February.

Festivale may sound familiar to long-time fans. The event is the Animal Crossing equivalent to Mardi Gras and usually takes place the day before the celebration in the real world. The festival takes place on February 15th in-game.

The event brings a classic character to New Horizons, a brightly colored peacock named Pavé. The event revolves around catching brightly colored feathers scattered around the island and bringing them back to Pavé. The short video gives a very brief look at some of the cosmetics that can be made from feathers.

The trailer notes that Animal Crossing’s next free update will be out in March, the game’s one year anniversary. A teaser picture shows a Mario mushroom and a star, which means a crossover event is imminent. Animal Crossing: New Leaf, in particular, featured a variety of Nintendo items that were largely absent from New Horizons so far.

The latest update is a little lighter than the previous ones, which brought new features and quality of life improvements to the game over the past year. Given that New Horizons went through almost a full cycle, fans have now seen all of the unique events that happen in the game. Whether Nintendo will tweak events or offer new rewards each year remains to be seen, but it will be a test of the life simulator’s continued popularity.
