AMD Takes on RTX 3060 Ti With Rumored Radeon RX 6700 XT
Gamers who want AMD to bring out cheaper graphics cards from the Radeon RX 6000 series don’t have to wait long. The Radeon RX 6900 XT and Radeon RX 6800 XT weren’t unveiled until late last year, but rumors of a Radeon RX 6700 XT launch in March may actually prove to be correct. This could offer gamers an alternative to Nvidia’s more budget-conscious GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti cards.
According to a listing discovered by Komachi_Ensaka in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), partner Gigabyte has registered six Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics cards. This suggests that a launch is imminent, although the listing did not specify a specific time for when it might happen. The cards have 12 GB of GDDR6 memory compared to 16 GB available on the AMD Radeon RX6800 XT. The reduced memory is to be expected as the 6700 XT is a cheaper model in the 6000 series.
The models listed on the EWG include the GV-R67XT-12GD-B, GV-R67XTAORUS E-12GD, GV-R67XTGAMING OC-12GD, GV-R67XTGAMING-12GD, GV-R67XTEAGLE OC-12GD, and the GV R67XTEAGLE-12GD. According to PC Gamer, this means that Gigabyte wants to bring a premium Aorus card, two playing cards, two Eagle cards, and a reference design from the manufacturer to the market. It is believed that at least two of these models will be overclocked.
Earlier rumors suggested that the 6700 XT cards will be based on AMD’s Navi 22 XT graphics architecture, which will include 40 processing units and 2,560 stream processors in addition to a 192-bit memory bus. Clock rates are still unknown at this point in time. This means that the 6700 XT will be equipped with 20 fewer processing units and 1,280 fewer stream processors than the Radeon RX 6800. It is speculated that the Radeon RX 6700 XT will deliver performance comparable to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.
Pricing information on the 6700 XT was not disclosed, but it is likely that these new cards can be offered at competitive prices as AMD aims to compete against Nvidia’s RTX 3000 series entry-level cards. For comparison, AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 is priced at $ 580, and the company has positioned its GPU as a direct competitor to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3070. With the Radeon 6700 XT, AMD could be for the same market as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti. The RTX 3060 Ti as a reference debuted at $ 399. With the latest Radeon RX 6700 XT, we can likely expect a price around or under $ 500.
Given the ongoing GPU shortage, it’s likely that the Radeon RX 6700 XT will face the same fate when it debuts.
